Refugee Education Support Program
The Refugee Education Support Program is partnered by the Department of Education, CMY (Centre of Multicultural Youth) and Foundation House. The program provides holistic and targeted support to selected schools to strengthen student wellbeing, connectedness, engagement and achievement.
In 2017 a partnership was formed with Warringa Park School, Foundation House and Drummond Street services to deliver the program and provide workshops to parents/ carers from refugee and migrant backgrounds with information on services that support family health and wellbeing.
The Wellbeing team are able to assist students and families with referrals to support services and engage in counselling, parent support programs and recreational groups. If you would like more information please contact a member of the Wellbeing team on 9749 5774.
After School Basketball Program
In conjunction with RESP, Warringa Park School work in collaboration with The Werribee Basketball Association to provide students from refugee and migrant backgrounds an after school skills-based program. The recreational program provides students with fundamental skills in basketball through modified games and supports connection with peers and services.
Additionally, a new partnership has been formed with the Welcome to the Games Program. This program supports students and their families to connect to local communities and services. The program is specifically for young people living with a disability and coming from refugee and migrant backgrounds. Students referred to the program attend the Basketball Clinic at Eagle Stadium and are introduced to the Active programs run by North Melbourne AFL Clubs Huddle Team.
