The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a hands on option for students in Years 11 and 12. VCAL offers students practical work-related skills experience, industry-specific learning, literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build and extend personal development skills that are important for life and work. VCAL is offered to students over two years at the Foundation level. Like the Victorian Certificate of Education, VCAL is an accredited secondary certificate.
The Warringa Park VCAL program is based at our Bethany Road Campus, inbedded in The Grange P-12 College grounds in Hoppers Crossing.
Students are accompanied to all programs. Many students progress to become independent travellers. Students can be ‘signed off’ as being an independent traveller if the individual student, their parents and their teachers are confident that the student can travel safely and confidently in a small group or on their own.
Travel education increases independence, confidence, opportunities for social and job prospects and provides greater freedom so that there is less reliance on friends and family. Students travel to programs and courses predominantly by public transport – trains, trams and buses. Students are eligible to receive a Myki card as they are no longer on the school bus when at VCAL.

Students are guided throughout their two years at VCAL by their Core Group Teacher and a team of VCAL teachers including a Work Experience Coordinator and Careers Teacher. Upon completion of VCAL and Year 12, On Track data shows that, many students choose post-school options in the areas of supported employment and further study (Wesley, Interact, Job Support ), TAFE or work.
