Early Years (P-4)
A major focus of the Early Years program is to develop language and communication skills whether verbally or using augmentative methods. Programs are developed with parents by multi -disciplinary teams comprising teachers, therapists and specialist staff and the priority is to ensure that each student develops to their maximum potential in the area of communicating with or without speech, in a range of contexts and with unfamiliar audiences.
The Early Years Literacy program focuses on developing speaking and listening, reading and writing skills through shared and guided reading sessions, whole class, small group and individual activities, phonemic awareness as well as handwriting and fine motor tasks. Students are involved in authentic reading and writing tasks on a daily basis and have the opportunity to read new and familiar books everyday

The Occupational Therapists work with students on an individual and small group basis in the classroom to develop students’ fine and gross motor skills and to assist with self help skills.
The Early years Numeracy program encourages students to experiment with a range of materials and participate in practical activities that teach and reinforce conceptual language, develop problem solving skills and facilitate an understanding of basic mathematics. Numeracy activities give understandings about number, measurement and space which are supported with practical activities in cooking, science and technology programs.
