Later Years (9-12)
Years 9 - 10
The focus in the later years is to improve learning in literacy, numeracy, technology and social competencies in a very functional context. Authentic learning experiences with a real life purpose are used to teach skills such as budgeting, travel training, timetabling, phone editequette, newspaper and internet reading. Learning is personalised so as to build confidence, self esteem and independence. There is a focus on preparing students for work and planning for post school options.
Students are able to access “Work
related Skills’ programs which teach them good work attitudes and skills,
workplace communication and appropriate workplace behaviour.
‘Café 11’ gives students the opportunity to practise literacy and numeracy skills in a practical, daily living situation.
The student run Canteen program provides a real life experience which challenges students to use their literacy and numeracy skills and demonstrate positive work attitudes.
Personal development programs focus on teaching appropriate behaviour at school and in the community, building positive relationships, drug education and sexual health.

Consumer skills, Travel Education and Leisure and Recreation are programs which are available to students in Years 9/10.
The Advance Program is used to deliver many of these learning outcomes. This program ensures that students in Year 9/10 are given every opportunity to learn in a variety of settings and contexts to facilitate a transfer of learning from school to real life situations.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is used to engage students and underpins all programs and learning. In Years 9/ 10 students are encouraged to utilise technology to record and present their work.
