The goals for physiotherapy at
WarringaParkSchool
is to provide special students with therapy services they may need in order to
function at the highest level they can physically and intellectually.
I am a physiotherapy consultant working on Tuesdays from 8.30am to 3.00pm
and on Wednesdays from 8.30am to 12.00pm. I have been working at WarringaParkSchool since 1999.
I will be assessing referred students from teachers, colleague therapists
(Occupational Therapists, Speech
Therapists, Music Therapists, Creative Art Therapists…) and any other staff
members of the school who think a concerned student may benefit from having
physiotherapy input.
I
will also assess students who are referred to me by their family doctors or
pediatricians working at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) and at private
practices.
After assessing, I will work with teachers, assistants and the parents of
the student needing physiotherapy to discuss short-term and long-term goals and
then strategies to implement agreed
physiotherapy programs.
I am also lucky enough to have the help of Janna Vanston, a wonderful
physiotherapy assistant, who helps me doing physiotherapy program for students,
especially on the days I am not working at the school. Janna has been personally
trained by me to do approved therapeutic procedures and she will keep me
informed of what going on during the week.
When a student’s condition changes and requires further help and
intervention, I will refer that student to his/her GP or other relevant Health
Professionals such as OTs, Speech Therapists or Psychologists…
I am also liaising with the
RoyalChildren
Hospital’s doctors, physiotherapists and other
Health Care Service Providers to provide students with specialist services and
equipment needed for their treatment.
When there are special circumstances that a student’s parents need to be
informed, I will try organizing a “parents meeting” with the help from Abigail
Fraser, the Parent Liaison Officer. This way, we can maintain good communication
between parents and the school regarding their child’s well being.
I am writing reports for each student having physiotherapy at the school
twice a year (at the end of each semester). The reports will be seen by the
Principal and then sent to the parents.
