Visual Arts at WPS

 The Visual Arts Department is an exciting and dynamic part of the Warringa Park School community. A diverse and challenging range of programs are offered to suit the individual needs of each child.

 In the Junior Years:

  • Art programs are conducted with an emphasis on skill acquisition and addressing the sensory needs of individuals.

  • We seek to provide a fun, safe environment which values curiosity and exploration.

  • Painting, Drawing, Print-making and Sculpture are the focus of art in the junior years.

 Examples of Junior Years Art Programs:

Foam Printing, Sensory Collages, Finger-Painting, Mask-Making, Wax Resist Drawings, Hand-Printing, Cardboard Construction, Pasta Necklace-Making.

 In the Middle Years:

  • Art skills and ideas are consolidated, and there is a greater emphasis on sustained projects.

  • Talking about art, looking at images and engaging in class discussion also emerges at this level.

  • Sensory art programs continue to be provided for specific students/groups.

  • Painting, Drawing, Print-making, 3D and Mixed Media are the focus of art in the Middle Years.

 Examples of Middle Years Art Programs:

  • Collograph Print-Making, Plaster of Paris Mask-Making, Papier Mache, Splatter Paintings, Group Abstract Paintings

 

In the Later years:

  • There is a further refining of skills

  • More sophisticated discussion and sharing about art appreciation and ideas

  • Production of exhibition quality artworks.

 

Examples of Senior Years Art Programs: Mixed Media Self-Portraits, Figure Drawing, Painting, Lino-Cutting, Etching (on plastic).
