Creative Arts Therapy at
A creative arts therapist works with students to develop a relationship where support can be offered in a safe, nonjudgmental environment while the student explores their creativity in order to restore the self and find solutions to the difficulties they may be experiencing.
Many art forms are offered as modalities including visual art, sculpture, dance/movement, drama, storytelling, clay work and music. Most of the individual work is non directive with the therapist following the student’s lead but group work is more directive, out of necessity.
This therapeutic intervention, which is offered to targeted students, aims to foster improved quality of life, particularly in relation to self-esteem and relationships with people.
Some of the possible outcomes of participating in the creative arts therapy program include
- Self acceptance
- Positive relationships
- Personal growth
- Purpose in life
- Autonomy
- Restoration of the self
- Life balance
- Transformation
- Improved performance
- Joy
